Difference between Hits, Sessions & Users

Many people still confuse between Website Hits, Sessions & Users Hits – It basically means an instance or action of the visitor, it could be also termed as a page view. For example if the visitor goes to Apple.com website its recorded as a hit, later the visitor clicks on the iPhone page that’s recorded as another Hit. Sessions – A bunch of hits combined together makes one Session, this will have a history of all the actions performed by the visitor throughout his browsing journey on the website during that particular session. Users – This is a super-set of all sessions combined together of a particular visitor on that particular website. Its the  cumulative journey of that visitor across various sessions (could be stored in a cookie or database)
